Allegro and the new Laundry Day Tee

I am all about a pattern with options because it provides so much possibility!  The new Love Notions Allegro for ladies is just that! From LN:  "The Allegro pattern features 5 bottom views, all feature a pull-on style with front slash pockets, back patch pockets, a faux fly and elastic waistband with drawstring. The pants and shorts have a semi-relaxed fit through the hips and thighs, tapering down to the ankle. The pants and shorts can be hemmed or cuffed. Two skirts are included- knee length and ankle length. The ankle length skirt features two slits up to the hem. This pattern is meant for light to medium weight apparel woven fabrics. Knits may be used but sizing down may be needed."

I chose to sew up the 5" inseam with no cuffs and I used a home decor fabric from Wal-Mart - it is similar in weight and feel to cotton duck cloth.  This fabric has great texture in the print, and I loved it since the first time I saw it...and I thought it worked beautifully for this pair.  I wasn't quite on my game when I bought fabric for this project...and only picked up 1 yard...and the pattern called for 1.5 yards in my size (oops!)  I did manage to squeeze these into one yard by piecing the contoured waistband lining piece and eliminating the back patch pockets, but it was a tight fit!  A great reminder to BUY.MORE.FABRIC! ;)  I also opted to skip the drawstring at the waist, because as I rarely tuck shirts in, I find most drawstrings just add bulk, and I certainly don't need or want that!  Next up on my list is the knee length skirt...I have the prettiest dark blue floral fabric picked out for it!

Love Notions has also just re-released their ever popular Laundry Day Tee, and Tami graciously provided the Allegro testers with early access so we could sew one up to use for photos.  I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've never sewn the LDT before's such a great option in the free pattern world, but there's just not enough sewing time in the day, am-I-right?

I've been holding onto some beautiful floral and a fun stripe from Mily Mae Fabrics for quite awhile now...I loved and wanted to use them together, but hadn't found the right project yet.  Sewing the new LDT seemed like the perfect opportunity!  I briefly considered cutting 2 fronts, so the shirt would be reversible, but then decided that might be better tested out in muslin fabric instead of my pretty fabric...and I only had time for one go!  So I cut the top length and ran with it.

I love the flattering neckline, the shaping through the bodice, and a hem line that doesn't cling...easily a new favorite in my closet!  One of the best things about sewing for myself is not only making clothes that fit my body, but also being able to mix and match fabrics that I like and enjoy.  I'm so glad I took the risk and cut into this floral instead of continuing to stare at it on my shelf...a practice I'm guilty of far too often!
